One-on-one lessons with amazing teachers…
Our story begins with a passion for teaching Spanish authentically and effectively. In 2015, a group of native Spanish teachers in Nicaragua came together with the aim of creating an innovative and accessible teaching method for people in our city who wanted to study Spanish. We developed this method using the new video conferencing platforms available, and launched Truly Native Spanish School in 2016. Since then, we have helped thousands of students around the world learn and improve their language skills in a practical and convenient way.
Here’s what we offer our students…
- Spanish lessons online in real time through video conferencing
- Access to study material and interactive online exercises
- Written exercises assigned and corrected via email
- Personalized lessons adapted to the specific needs of each student
The best part? You get all this for an extremely low cost – some lesson packages cost less than $9 an hour!

Edwina Herrera
Hi, I’m Edwina! I come from a family of Spanish teachers. My mom was a founder in the first Spanish school in the much visited beach town of San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua My sister and I carry on her legacyI have taught Spanish to people from around the world who have visited Nicaragua over the last 18 years, teaching in several schools. I have about 6 years of college including coursework in the areas of business and HR, economics, tourism, languages and research methods. I have also taken professional development courses specifically focused on tutoring. In addition to tutoring, I have taught computer literacy and programming in local schools.
My English is good enough for simple conversations and helping my students when they are stuck. I live with my husband and 3 kids (21, 16, and 11), a cat named Ella and 2 dogs named Brooklyn and Parda. I enjoy traveling the world, which I do through the eyes of my students. The friendships I make are a bright spot in my life. I live in San Juan del Sur near the ocean. I enjoy walking on the beach but with work, I don’t get do that much right now!
